HS BBBall: Clinton Holds off Shelbyville to Open CIC

The Clinton Maroons used active hands to force turnovers and beat the Shelbyville Rams by a final score of 72-62 in Central Illinois Conference high school boys basketball action on Friday night in Clinton.

 

The Maroons led 11-8 after the first quarter, but made two quick buckets from distance to open the second, forcing Shelbyville Coach Paul Conlon to burn two timeouts in under two minutes. 

 

The Rams trailed 31-25 at halftime, but attacked the rim from distance in the third to close the deficit to 52-49 going into the final frame. Jaeden Bell added a pair of three-point plays late in the game to seal the win. 

 

Bell led all scorers with 25 points for Clinton. Keaton Graves added 24 points, while Keagan Daughtrey had 13. The team shot 9-for-11 from the foul line. 

 

Shelbyville was led by Owen Beyers and Aiden Hardy, who each scored 17 points. Carson BGruns and Brady Brinkoetter had eight points apiece. The Rams made 11 buckets from distance.  

 

With the win, Clinton improves to 15-5 and 1-0 in the Central Illinois Conference. Shelbyville falls to 7-8 and 0-2 in conference play. 

 

The Maroons will travel to Macon to take on the Meridian Hawks on Tuesday. Tipoff is at 7:30 PM.
