In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello fell short to the state-ranked Tolono Unity Rockets 69-53 in Illini Prairie Conference high school boys basketball action Thursday night in Tolono.
The Rockets and Sages were back-and-forth the first quarter and a half, but after Monticello went up 23-22 early in the second quarter, Unity finished the half with a 17-7 edge.
Monticello never got closer than four - in the third quarter.
The Sages' Matthias Rudolph led all scorers with 21 points. Aiden McCool added 13 points.
Unity had four players in double figures. Tyler Henry had 20 points. Brayden Henry and Dane Eisenmenger each finished with 12 points, and Mason O'Neill finished with ten for the Rockets.
Unity improves to 21-2 overall and is 5-0 in the Illini Prairie Conference.
Monticello has lost five of its last six, dropping to 11-8 overall and 2-3 in the Illini Prairie Conference.
