HS GBBall: Clinton Wins CIC Tournament with Win Over Meridian

In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, the Clinton Lady Maroons forced turnovers on defense and scored in transition to dominate the Meridian Lady Hawks by a final score of 63-33 in the Championship game of the CIC Tournament on Thursday night in Macon.

The two teams traded the lead back and forth early in the first quarter, but the Maroons ended up with the 22-16 lead heading into the second, and never looked back.

The score was 36-19 heading into the half, and despite a rough third quarter of dead-ball fouls for Clinton, they grew the lead to 50-27 going into the final frame.

Clara Dempsey led all scorers with 21 points for the Lady Maroons. Carly Anderson and Lilah Cluver each had 16 points. The team shot 9-for-11 from the foul line.

The Lady Hawks were led by Shelby Renfro, who scored 11 points, seven of which came in the second half. Julia Meisenhelter had eight, while Natalie Reynolds had 7.

With the win, Clinton takes the CIC tournament trophy for the second year in a row, and improves to 22-4 and 6-0 in the CIC. They extend their win streak to 18 games.

Meridian falls to 13-7 and 2-3 in the CIC.

The Lady Maroons will take on the Serena Lady Huskers on Saturday at 11:30 PM.
