HS BBBall: Big Second Half Propels Monticello Past Decatur St. Teresa

In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Monticello outscored Decatur St. Teresa 36-17 and pulled away for a 59-37 win in non-conference high school boys basketball action from the Sievers Center in Monticello on Saturday. 

St. T hit three consecutive three-pointers and led 9-2 midway through the first, but Monticello battled back and outscored the Bulldogs 12-5 the rest of the frame and then led by three at the half, 23-20.

Monticello's Matthias Rudolph led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Aden McCool added 14 points while Nolan Buehnerkemper grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, finished with six points, and five assists.

Beuhnerkemper's overall performance earned him the State Bank of Bement Monticello location player of the game.

The Sages shot 53-percent from the floor for the game, with 42 of its 59 points coming in the paint. They had 15 assists on their 29 field goals.

St. T was led by Tommy Herman's 12 points, and Eli Etchason had ten points. Brett Cleary grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs on the glass.

St. T drops to 7-12 overall. 

Monticello improves to 13-8. They host Pontiac on Tuesday night in Illini Prairie Conference action. Game time is 7 pm. Hear it all on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
