The Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals will be leaning on their five returning players this baseball season from last year's squad.
Head Coach Chris Elston explains that last year's postseason loss to Maroa-Forsyth is one his returning players remember, as those athletes take a greater leadership position within the team. He notes that pitching experience will give his squad an edge this year.
The team is returning some strong hitters. Elston hopes that they can get senior Nathan Southern in good form early on, and notes that the team's hitter in the ninth spot last year, Brody Brown, was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.
The Cardinals graduated the team leader in homers and RBIs last year, Christopher Lawson, and Elston feels that losing him will mean they will have to find ways to get on base.
The Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals kick off their baseball season on Monday when they play host to Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond. First pitch is at 4:30 PM.
