Two things the Monticello Lady Sages softball team won't be short on this season is power in the lineup and experience across the roster.
The Lady Sages enter the season with nearly its entire lineup intact from last year, where they were knocked off in a Regional semifinal by Tri-Valley. Coach Lauren Richardson says that first-round exit in the Regionals left a real sour taste in the mouth of her team, and they are ready to take a big step forward.
One of the Lady Sages' top hitters last season was Isabella Beery, who returns as a senior this year. She is eager to do more when the postseason rolls around.
Cassidee Stoeffel has been in circle for Monticello since she was a freshman. She is going to be leaning on her experience from the first three years in her senior season.
The Lady Sages are at Villa Grove on Wednesday to open the spring softball season.
The Lady Sages will return to the WEZC airwaves this spring for a 'game of the week' broadcast. The first Monticello softball game on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com is Friday, March 20, against Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond at 4:30 pm.
