In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Madison Highland fired a complete game and hit a pivotal two-run home run as part of driving in five RBIs, and Monticello rolled Tri-Valley 8-1 in non-conference high school softball action on a chilly Tuesday in Monticello.
Highland drove in two runs as part of a four-run first inning that allowed Monticello to get out in front early and not look back.
Cassidee Stoffel was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Isabella Beery was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and drove in two for the Lady Sages.
Highland allowed just one hit in seven innings of one-run ball. She walked three and struck out three.
Her only blemish was a two-out, bases loaded fielders choice.
Tri-Valley falls to 4-3 overall. They toppled Monticello twice last spring - including knocking the Lady Sages out of the postseason in the Regional semis in Monticello.
Monticello goes to 10-2 overall. They travel to Tolono Unity on Thursday to open Illini Prairie Conference action.
