In a game heard on WHOW and all its digital platforms, Danika Eisenmenger struck out nine across four innings, helping the Tolono Unity Rockets shut out the Clinton Maroons 6-0 in a Class 2A softball regional semifinal matchup on Wednesday night in Forsyth.
The Rockets got on the board first in the home half of the second. Eisenmenger slammed a double to left, and Karleigh Jamison quickly followed with a single. With two outs on the board, Grace Bickers singled to left to score Maya Rawdins, who was running for Eisenmenger, to make it 1-0. From there, Kenley Harris singled to right to score Jamison, and Bickers came home on an error on the same play to make it 3-0.
They added two more in the fourth as Bickers hit a grounder and reached on an error, which also scored Reese Frye. Shelby Smith hit a sac fly to right that scored Bickers and made it 5-0. Bickers also hit a solo homer in the sixth.
Riley Fentress, Avery Smith, Kinzey Sickles, and Aliviyah Haynes each had hits in the outing for Clinton.
Haynes allowed six runs on seven hits, struck out one, and walked two.
Bickers led the Rockets with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. She plated three runs and scored three times. Reese Frye was also 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of doubles. Jamison was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Smith was 0-for-3 with an RBI.
Eisenmenger got the start for Tolono Unity and recorded nine strikeouts across four innings, allowed one hit, and walked just one. Korina Finical came in in relief and threw three innings of shutout ball for the save, striking out three and walking one.
The Maroons finish the regular season with a record of 10-20. Tolono Unity improves to 26-7 and advances to the championship of the Maroa-Forsyth Regional on Thursday against either St. Joseph-Ogden or Tri-Valley at 6 PM.
