In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Bloomington Central Catholic outlasted Monticello 5-4 in a Class 2A Regional Championship high school softball nine-inning marathon on Friday afternoon from Bloomington Central Catholic High School.
The Lady Saints jumped out in front for a 3-0 lead, and its pitcher, Jaelyn Moritz, looked like she was going to carry BCC to an easy win.
But Monticello battled back with a four-run fifth inning to go in front 4-3. A pair of passed balls scored a run, and Meadow Miller delivered an RBI base hit in the frame.
A solo home run in BCC's sixth inning from Brynn Landrus tied the game at 4-4.
The score would stay tied at 4-4 until the Lady Saints got a run with two outs on a single from Lauren Durako to put BCC in front 5-4.
The Lady Sages finish the season 21-10 overall.
BCC advances to the Monticello sectional next week.
