Lincoln Police Department Seeing Increase in Calls for Service This Summer, Highlights By Spike in Domestic Violence

A central Illinois law enforcement agency says it is seeing an increase in calls for service with an alarming trend among those calls.

Lincoln Police Chief Joe Meister says it is not unusual for calls for service to increase in the summer months, but one trend he's noticing is an increase in domestic violence.

According to Chief Meister, the City of Lincoln had a fatal DUI car accident during the Memorial Day weekend. Chief Meister says, unfortunately, with the spike in calls for service, they just are not able to do traffic enforcement as much as they would like.

When it comes to domestic violence, Chief Meister says there are often many complicating factors for the victims, but Lincoln and Logan County have really beefed up the resources for those individuals, especially during times of need.

The Chief indicates his department was able to do some targeted enforcement in a few target areas of the community earlier this spring, but since that time, they've been inundated with calls for service this summer.
