Senate Bill 2771—known as Tammurra's Act—which amends state law to ensure 988 contact info is posted in high-traffic public locations. Tony Kirkman, Executive Director of the Piatt County Mental Health Center, explains county shelters, public libraries, schools, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities are now required to display easily viewable materials detailing the 24/7 crisis service.

Kirkman emphasizes increasing the visibility of the 988 Lifeline in community spaces helps break down barriers for individuals experiencing severe depression or despair, ensuring they know trained professionals are always available to help.

For rural communities in Piatt and DeWitt counties, Kirkman notes that 24/7 phone, text, and telehealth options are vital tools for overcoming common local barriers to care, such as limited transportation or conflicting work hours.
