As central Illinois moves into August, weather forecasters are tracking shifting temperature trends and precipitation chances across the region.

Ed Shimon with the National Weather Service in Lincoln explains early August will likely see above-normal temperatures before conditions settle toward seasonal averages by mid-month. 

Shimon notes August outlooks show equal chances for above- or below-normal temperatures, with average high temperatures typically stepping down from the mid-80s early in the month into the upper 70s by late August. However, the area will need consistent rainfall to reach its typical monthly average of around three and a half inches.

Beyond regional forecasts, the National Weather Service is gearing up for the Illinois State Fair in Springfield from August 13th through the 23rd. Shimon explains his staff will provide real-time weather monitoring for fairgoers' safety while also hosting an outreach booth featuring educational safety materials for the public.
