The Illinois State Fair opens this Thursday, and the National Weather Service is gearing up to provide the eyes in the sky for the ten days of the annual celebration.
Ed Shimon at the National Weather Service in Lincoln says the State Fair always provides plenty of excitement to fairgoers, but also to his staff. Chances of rain will continue to persist even into the heart of State Fair week.
If you're headed to the Fair and the weather is not threatening with severe storms, you are likely to encounter Shimon and his team set up near the Dairy Building on the fairgrounds.
Looking to the back end of the State Fair and the last few weeks of August, Shimon indicates outlooks show equal chances of above- or below-normal temperatures and the same for precipitation.
