In a game heard on WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, Heyden Roman struck out ten in five innnigs of one-hit ball, Cole Basak drove in six runs with three extra base hits, and Monticello rolled Westville 12-0 in non-conference high school baseball action on Friday in Monticello.
Basak started the scoring for Monticello with a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the first inning. The Sages led 3-0 after the first.
Basak added another run batted in in the second with a double that scored Dawson Gaitros. Monticello led 6-0 after the second inning.
Basak singled home Jax Bailey in the third to put the Sages up 7-0.
The big blow of the game was a bases-clearing double that made it 10-0 in the fourth.
Romano allowed just one hit, walked one, and hit a batter while striking out ten across five shutout innings. He was the State Bank of Bement Player of the Game.
Westville dropped its fourth in a row to go to 3-5 overall.
Monticello remains unbeaten at 6-0. They will host New Berlin on Saturday. Hear the Sages on WEZC again on Monday when they host Lincoln at 4:30 pm.
